Understanding the Astro-Grid
Decoding Your Compatibility Details
The Astro-Grid is a visual tool, similar to a checkerboard, designed to show how each person's planets and other astrological points interact with those of another person through the major astrological aspects.
What the Grid Shows
Imagine a grid where one person's planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, etc., plus points like the North Node and Ascendant) are listed down the left side (Rows), and the other person's planets are listed across the top (Columns). Each square within the grid represents the specific interaction between the planet in that row and the planet in that column.
Reading a Grid Square
Each square contains several pieces of information using standard astrological symbols (glyphs), house numbers, zodiac signs, aspect symbols, angles, and scores. You'll become familiar with these quickly as you use the Astro-Grid.
- Top-Left Corner: Two symbols indicate which planets or points are being compared. The first represents the planet belonging to the person shown along the left side of the grid, and the second represents the planet belonging to the person shown across the top.
- Top-Right Corner: When the two planets form a major aspect within the allowed orb, the symbol for that aspect appears here. If they do not form one of the major aspects used by the Astro-Grid, their actual angular separation is shown instead.
- Bottom-Left Corner: Shows the house number and zodiac sign where the planet appears in the natal chart of the person shown along the left side of the grid.
- Bottom-Right Corner: Shows the house number and zodiac sign where the planet appears in the natal chart of the person shown across the top of the grid.
- Center: When a major aspect exists, its Aspect Score appears here. Positive scores indicate a generally supportive contribution to compatibility, while negative scores indicate a generally challenging contribution. The size of the number indicates the strength of that particular interaction.
Getting Interpretations
The Astro-Grid becomes much more informative when you interact with it. When a square contains a major aspect:
- Click the Aspect Score in the center of the square.
- A popup will appear with a detailed, personalized interpretation explaining how that specific planetary interaction (for example, one person's Venus trine the other person's Mars) may influence the relationship.
The Big Picture
By exploring the different squares in the Astro-Grid and reading the interpretations for the significant aspects, you can develop a deeper understanding of the many dynamics within a relationship. These individual interactions, along with house overlays and other astrological factors, contribute to five Area Scores – Overall, Romance, Sex, Friendship, and Money. View/Print Report provides additional summaries and detailed personalized interpretations that bring these individual pieces together into a more complete picture of the relationship.
